We recently visited a galactic space center that was out of this world! Our family spent a rainy weekday morning touring the The Infinity Science Center. The educational attraction is located in Pearlington, MS.

Museum-Aholics?

I have always enjoyed touring museums. Two of the most memorable museums we’ve visited are The Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC and The Louvre in Paris, France, where we saw the Mona Lisa.

Another memorable museum was the Noah's Ark replica in Kentucky where we also toured the Creation Museum.

There was one time I recall finding out it was Free Museum Day, which is when you can visit local museums free of charge once a year. We took a trip to New Orleans, LA where we spent the day strolling through various museums. We toured an antebellum home, an art museum and a voodoo museum, to name a few.

Educational Fun for the Whole Family

This science museum was a fun learning experience for the whole family. Our daughter enjoyed seeing the wildlife featured in the front exhibit. Among the ducks, ladybugs and flowers was a butterfly exhibit that she adored. She kept exclaiming and pointing to the tiny creatures and seemed very interested in them.

Seeing all of the space equipment up close and personal, like Fred Haise’s astronaut suit, was fascinating.

The Apollo 4 capsule and other artifacts on display helped tell the history of space exploration.

There are a couple of 3D movies you can watch. Being that we had a toddler in tow we didn’t catch any flicks. Inside the museum there were a ton of interactive exhibits and I have to commend the staff on their cleanliness. I saw employees consistently disinfecting frequently touched areas throughout the museum. We felt comfortable during our time here which made for a more enjoyable experience.

In addition to the indoor exhibits and collection of artifacts there were some fun outdoor activities that we were unfortunately unable to take part of due to the inclement weather.

From inside, we were able to see the outdoor boardwalk that leads to the Saturn V first stage booster and its five giant F-1 engines. Fortunately, we had a nice view of the mighty booster from behind the massive windows on the second story of the building.

Should you go on a sunny day, there was also a nice outdoor park area with picnic tables and playground equipment for the youngins’.

After completing our tour it was pouring down rain outside. We found ourselves meandering through the gift shop and ran into aisles of unique gifts that my husband and I recall playing with as kids. By the time we finished reminiscing, the rain had slacked enough to make a sprint to our truck.

I had a little too much fun editing this photo ;-)

Neither of us consider ourselves space fanatics but it was nice to take in some new sights and learn something new. I encourage you to pick a topic outside of your normal comfort zone and learn something new this weekend.
